| OK, so you want a paper free solution to your production
control system ?
Well that’s not always possible, but there are many
aspects of production control that can free the need for tagging
bits of paper to the job to be produced.
Beyond the usual documentation, i.e. invoices and delivery
notes etc, the only other requirement for paper, needs to
be a barcode label. This is then used to track the job or
batch through the production or assembly process.
Features of an automated production / assembly line are
:-
Reduced Paperwork
by use of barcode tracking
Ease of use and good operator
acceptance
Up to the second, job
progress reports
Correct part
fitted checks
Data Solutions have now been involved with the installation
of many production control systems and have grown to realise
the major benefits these systems have bought to our customers.
Indeed, many company’s production would not be possible
without some degree of automation.
We have found that no two production systems are the same
and the degree of automation required varies depending on
the items being produced and the extent that existing systems
cover. To this end, we have developed a system that is easily
tailored to the company’s requirements, with tried and
tested modules to control the many aspects of an automated
system.
Some of the areas that our system covers are :-
Order Processing
Stock Picking and Replenishment
Barcode Tracking
Pick by Light
Hand Held Scanners and Radio Data Terminals
Data Capture
Label Printing
The heart of any production control system is its database.
We firmly believe that this should be based on an open access
model, which allows easy interaction with other systems, by
use of an ODBC link. This way, the company can easily create
reports or indeed update stock levels etc. by use of third
party software such as Microsoft Access or other database
query programs.
Our preferred system is a client server database, based around
an NT server, running SQL server to a network of PC workstations
running Windows 9x or NT.
For smaller systems, our system can run on a single computer
with serial or network links to barcode scanning devices and
terminals. |
